Titan, Invincible 33′

Interview with the Captain — Faxon Michaud

About the Boat

Why did you choose to buy an Invincible?
They are extremely geared toward fishing, open deck space, big livewell system, and 360 fishablility.  The ride is incredible, when I sea trialed one we did 50kts through Buzzards Bay chop and I was sold.

What other kinds of boats did you consider before buying this model (and how did they compare)?
I considered a Contender 32 ST and a SeaVee 32 Z. Both are very respectable boats and I think the rides are comparable, but I decided to go with the Invincible for two reasons: looks and availability.

How did you come to find/locate her before purchasing (and what’s the boat’s history if you know it)?
I talked to the guys at Buzzards Bay Yacht Sales and had it built new, exactly the way I wanted it.

What boats have you previously owned?
My previous boat was a Regulator 26.

What are the features you like most about your boat?
Back to the reasons for purchasing the boat, the fishablility is unlike anything else I’ve ever been on. It is simply the easiest boat to fish from that I have every been on.

What features/improvements have you added or do you plan to add?
For the time being, I have kitted it out exactly how I want, only time will tell what else I will add (although it’s sure to be geared towards fishing).

How do you typically use your boat over the summer, and where do you go?
99.9% Of the time I am using the boat to fish, whether that be for my charter business; Titan Guide Service, commercially fishing, or fishing with friends. It’s very rare that I get to use the boat to sit at the sandbar, although it has proven to be an excellent ride for that as well!

Do you belong to a yacht club or other boating organizations?
Yes, I belong to the Boston Yacht Club.

What is the biggest challenge you have in servicing your boat?
I don’t really have any challenges servicing my boat. I have a great relationship with Ryan Marine Services here in Marblehead, and they meet all my needs. I think this year it has been especially difficult to get parts though, due to COVID.

Do you have any advice for those looking to buy an Invincble like yours?
Talk to Tom or Dave O’Toole down at Buzzards Bay Yacht Sales, they can answer any questions you might have about the boats. Super friendly and knowledgeable. You can always contact me as well.

What’s the story behind the boat’s name?
I named the boat Titan because it was the name of my last one. As much as I’d love to change it, at this point I’ve built a brand around the name and am locked into it fort he time being.

About Fishing

Do you fish commercially or for pleasure?
I do both, although pleasure fishing seems to be less and less these days.

Who first introduced you to boating/fishing?
My dad introduced me to boating at a very young age, I was fortunate enough to spend most my days growing up with him on the water. I was introduced to fishing through Randy Sigler’s fishing camp here in town (that I later worked for when I first got into the charter business).

What’s your favorite game fish (and/or season)?
Bluefin Tuna is without a doubt my favorite fish. They provide an adrenalin rush that I have yet to match.

Most memorable catch (or story from a trip)?
I have a ton of different memories about fishing, maybe too many to just pick one. But I would have to say my most memorable catch was a 119 inch, 1000lbs Bluefin tuna that I caught with my mentor, Bob Hansen, and my cousin Jim. We fought that fish for over four hours and when we finally landed the fish, it was dead. This fish gave the meaning to “fight to the death.”

Advice for less experienced anglers?
Hire someone to take you out on their boat and show you the ropes. I’ve seen a lot of people buy all the gear, get excited about it, and fall out of love with it because they aren’t catching any fish. It’s key to learn from someone, even if it’s your neighbor who fishes occasionally.

Most under-rated piece of equipment or tackle
Sabiki rig de-hooker.

Any recent fishing/boating-related purchase you’ve been enjoying?
Ocean tamer marine beanbags.
They are beyond comfortable when you’re waiting around for a bite.

Do you have any other notable resources you use (apps, devices, etc)?
I use the MyRadar app and Fishweather app. The most important thing on the water is staying safe and these two help me make sure the weather is safe to do so.
