“My children came up with the name and logo while we were having dinner one night. The name Seagar came from how much I enjoy cigars “CI” and the the first three letters of my name “GAR” then we played with the letters and came up with Seagar!.”
Seagar, Intrepid 28′
Interview with the Captain – Gary Paul
About the boat
Why did you choose to buy this particular boat and what else did you consider?
I was looking at Grady White and Wellcraft, although we really wanted the Intrepid. We actually went to to Florida looking for boat to purchase and ended up finding this in Marshfield Ma.
What boats have you previously owned?
Jones Brother 1910LT.
What are the features you like most about your boat?
Size, walk around, cabin and the overall construction of the boat.
What features/improvements have you added or do you plan to add?
Over the last two years we have replaced all combing pads, seat cousins, complete Simrad electronics using the 4G radar, NSS12 EVO3, NSS9 EVO3, two new transducers, shore power, dual battery trickle charger, JL Audio sound system excluding amps subwoofers Polk Audio speakers, 110 volt inverter, and a backup GO9XSE. Installed a flat screen TV with HD antenna, and lastly complete overhaul on the Yamaha OX66 225’s engines.
Where have you traveled with your boat?/what do you have planned?
We have been mostly around the North Shore, Boston Harbor, Stellwagon Bank, and a trip to Provincetown Ma. We have trips planned for the South Shore and islands for this year.
Do you belong to a yacht club/marina or other boating organizations?
We are members at Danversport Marina, Manchester Boat Club, and Dockwa.
What is the biggest challenge you have in servicing your boat?
Most of the trouble we had was finding mechanics when we purchased the boat, due to Covid. Other than that we have had great experience with Portside Marine in Danvers and Coastal Marine Services in Marblehead.
Who first introduced you to boating?
I grew up in Marblehead, the water was my second home.
Do you have any advice for those looking to buy a Intrepid like yours?
Be patient, hire the right boat survey company, and allow two years to get the boat to where you want it to be.
What’s the story behind the boat’s name?
My children came up with the name and logo while we were having dinner one night. The name Seagar came from how much I enjoy cigars “CI” and the the first three letters of my name “GAR” then we played with the letters and came up with Seagar!
Any recent boating-related purchase you’ve been enjoying (e.g. product/tool/equipment etc)?
Huge fan of Simrad, Penn Reels , and Shimano Spinning Bait caster
