Kappy’s Bay, Pursuit 328 Sport
Interview with the Captain — Scott Kaplowitch
About the Boat
Why did you choose to buy a Pursuit?
I decided to buy a pursuit because I like the name brand, look, Yamaha engines, and the features of having the cabin down below. This boat also came with all of the electronics I was looking for. I believe the boat will maintain its long term value.
What other kinds of boats did you consider before buying this model?
Before buying my Pursuit, I considered buying a Mag Bay, Everglades, Edgewater, and Chris Craft.
How did you come to find / locate her before purchasing?
I went down to Bosuns and I was looking at a few different boats. The moment I stepped on the 328 sport I knew this was the boat for me. I was able to custom order the boat with all of the features I wanted.
Who first introduced you to boating?
My father introduced me to boating. I grew up in Marblehead and boating has always been a big part of my life.
What boats have you previously owned?
I have owned boats all of my life. Previously, I have owned a Sportsman and Wellcraft.
What are the features you like most about your boat?
I like the electronics a lot as well as the cabin and the amount of space around the whole boat. I also like the way the boat rides.
What features/improvements have you added or do you plan to add?
The boat came with everything I wanted. The only feature I have added is the Siren Marine system.
How do you typically use your boat over the summer, and where do you go?
We use the boat all the time over the summer. We go to Sand Dollar Cove almost every weekend, up to Gloucester or down to Boston. Sometimes, we just for a cruise through the Harbor. Next summer I plan on taking the boat down to the Vineyard.
What is the biggest challenge you have in servicing your boat?
I haven’t had any challenges servicing my boat. Ryan Marine always does a great job servicing my boats. I have On The Water Boat Cleaning clean the boat every Friday so it is ready to go for the weekend.
Do you have any advice for those looking to buy a Pursuit?
I would look at multiple boats to figure out which one fits your needs as well as test driving every boat to get a feel for how they ride.
What’s the story behind the boat’s name?
When I was growing up my dad had a horse named Scott’s Bay, so we decided to name the boat Kappy’s Bay. To remain consistent, and in line with our other boats, we kept the name Kappy and used the name Bay as a tribute to the horse and my father who passed away in 1998.
