“I grew up on a lake in Switzerland and started boating there, mostly sailing. I later sailed professionally for 6 years before marriage and settling down in Marblehead.“
Dancin’ Fool, Sea Hunt Triton 22.5
Interview with the Captain – Marcel Nyffenegger
About the boat
Why did you choose to buy a Sea Hunt?
Sea Hunt boats have a good reputation, are seaworthy and it fit the budget. I like the features it offers, and everything is well laid out.
What other kinds of boats did you consider before buying this particular model (and how did they compare)?
I was looking at several other brands like Cobia, Sea Fox and Scout. We completed the purchase in late fall of 2020 and there were not a lot of boats available that fit the criteria I was looking for. I wanted a boat I can still trailer with my SUV and it had to fit into my winter storage place. One additional “must have” was 2 bow cleats. A lot of boats in that size range come with only one and being on a mooring, it was important for me to have 2 for safety.
How did you come to find/locate her before purchasing (and what’s the boat’s history if you know it)?
I found the boat listed on boattrader.com. I liked it and contacted the dealer who had it listed in Marshfield MA. Arranged a showing and started the purchase soon after. In regard to the history, I am the second owner. The previous owners had her for 10 years. One particular fact I liked is that the boat was always stored inside was never in the water year-round.
What features/improvements have you added or do you plan to add?
The boat came without bottom paint. So, I had to get that done since it is now on a mooring. Other than that, I wanted to use it for the first season as is, and then make a decision on changes or upgrades.
What are the features you like most about your boat?
How it rides on the water and its fuel efficiency. Also, the space available to have friends along.
Who first introduced you to boating/sailing?
I grew up on a lake in Switzerland and started boating there, mostly sailing. I later sailed professionally for 6 years before marriage and settling down in Marblehead.
Do you belong to a yacht club or other boating/sailing organizations?
I belong to the Marblehead Yacht Club (MYC), Stormtrysail Club (STC) and US Sailing.
What boats have you previously owned?
We owned a Boston Whaler Montauk 17’ and a Grady White 205 Overnighter.
How do you typically use your boat over the summer, and where do you go?
We love to explore the North Shore. Manchester, Misery Islands, Kettle Cove, Annisquam River, or the occasional trip to Boston.
What is the biggest challenge you have in servicing your boat?
Since the boat is new to us, I had not had any servicing challenges yet. All cosmetic stuff I do myself in the spring and fall. All engine service is being done by Coastline Marine here in Marblehead. They do a fantastic job and did so with my previous boat.
Do you have any notable boating resources you use?
I am a member of Boat US and SeaTow (You never know…).
Do you have any advice for those looking to buy a Sea Hunt like yours?
There are currently very few Sea Hunt boats available on the East Coast north of the Carolinas. You can find them if you are willing to travel for a purchase.
What’s the story behind the boat’s name?
Dancin’ Fool is a song by Frank Zappa and I always thought it would be a fun name for a boat. All my previous boats had the same name.
