In our new Bayliss demo yacht, Tarheel, we’ve taken what we’ve learned over 24 builds and distilled it into a boat that we feel embodies our mission. Our goal for the 62′ Tarheel Bayliss Boatworks demo yacht is to have you be an actual part of understanding one of our builds, fresh out of the barn. It’s a case of clarity- a way to open up and invite our existing extended family of friends and customers, as well as new ones, to see for themselves. 

In July, Bayliss Boatworks christened their first demo-boat, the 62-foot Tarheel. Tarheel’s 2019 tournament and show schedule will provide guests and vendors with the opportunity to view a Bayliss first-hand. Kicking off the tour, Tarheel made her public debut at the Dare County Boat Builder’s Tournament on July 24th. Started in May 2018, Tarheel is a product of over 38,000-man hours and was completed in just 15 months. 

Tarheel’s hull is blanketed in a special custom blend of paint called Tarheel Blue with an Aristo Blue bootstripe and silver metallic accent. She is outfitted in color-matched faux teak on the salon door, toe rail, drip molding, and helm pod in order to reduce brightwork maintenance. Her cockpit deck and coverboards are all made up of natural, hand-selected teak boards. Her exterior appearance is completed with a Palm Beach Towers carbon fiber hardtop.

The flybridge is a custom Bayliss Boatworks center console layout with a three-sided enclosure. Tackle and gear accommodation are plentiful on the flybridge, within both the forward, port, and starboard bench seats. The forward starboard compartment houses a freshwater hose for convenient washdowns. Her heavy-duty outriggers are outfitted by Rupp Marine, and built to withstand rough conditions. 

The cockpit is designed with gear accommodation in mind as well. The mezzanine area features custom freezer and refrigerated boxes, a drink box, a large ice bin, and copious amounts of tackle and storage space. There is a built-in livewell supply, and a chilled filtered water spout to conveniently fill water bottles mid-action without leaving the cockpit. 

The interior of Tarheel is clean and bold. Upon entering the salon, cork flooring offers a durable alternative to teak planking and is also present in the galley and both heads. In the salon, a custom L-shaped sofa and sofa table on the port side sit alongside a smaller starboard sofa with a custom 43” tv-lift in the teak countertop behind. The galley features two SubZero refrigerators, one SubZero freezer, a Wolf microwave and a Wolf induction cooktop. The granite countertops installed throughout the upper and lower levels compliment the bold teak veneers in the surrounding cabinetry.

Tarheel (Bayliss 62′) Interior
The lower level is organized for maximum accommodation and storage. The three-stateroom, two head layout provides ample bunks and includes a tackle room with custom rod storage and a chest freezer. The forward master stateroom features a starboard and port bunk and there are two stacked bunks each in the guest and crew staterooms. All staterooms are appointed with custom teak veneered hanging lockers, night stands and cabinetry above and below the bunks.

Tarheel is powered with MTU M96L 12V engines, each with 1,920 horsepower. Her top speed is 46.5 knots and her cruise ranges from 37-41 knots (depending on rpm). All surfaces in her machinery spaces from the bow stem to the transom are glassed, faired, and painted with the same custom color as her exterior. The electrical and mechanical layouts for wiring and plumbing are also efficiently run to Bayliss Boatworks specifications for ease of maintenance or future additions. For stability, she is outfitted with two Seakeeper 6 units. 

You can find Tarheel at the White Marlin Open, Alice Kelly Ladies Only Billfish Tournament, Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament, and MidAtlantic Tournament this summer. Bayliss Boatworks has been building custom sportfishing yachts since 2002. Four additional builds are currently in progress at the company’s facility in Wanchese, NC, including the 78’ Blue View, 62’ Bayliss, 72’ Bayliss, and 62’ Bayliss.
